Basic & Advanced Paddleboarding Skills Courses
Paddle Canada courses are delivered by a Paddle Canada certified SUP instructor. Whether you are looking for a basic standup paddle boarding skills course to get you on the water safely or hope to become a SUP instructor and teach paddling one day we can help you work towards your flatwater SUP goals. Candidates will be evaluated and successful demonstration of skills will result in being awarded a SUP Paddle Canada Advanced Flatwater Skills Certificate. See upcoming courses in Petawawa below.
Basic course covers: Standing up, falling safely, understanding and assessing conditions, choosing a board and paddle, paddling in windy conditions, safety equipment, resources, history, strokes (forward, brace, sweep), launching from a dock and shore
Advanced course covers: Towing, launching in waves, foot positions, pivot turns, bracing, edging, draw strokes, efficient forward stroke, environment, risk assessment and management

Learn to paddle safely in calm and windy conditions. A great entry point to gain skill, comfort, and confidence on the water and to fine-tune the basics if you are just beginning. Learn about flat water standup paddleboarding and safety equipment, falling and remounting safely, water safety, proper sizing, and use of a SUP paddle. Practice the key paddling strokes to maneuver the paddleboard and have more enjoyable paddles.

ADVANCED SUP SKILLS COURSE
8 am - 12 pm, Ottawa River at Petawawa Point

Pre-requisites: Basic Skills or Equivalent Experience.
An advanced skills course is recommended for anyone who has been paddleboarding and wants to master advanced paddle strokes, venture out in more challenging conditions, play with foot positions (use more space on the board, very fun), gain knowledge on board design, paddle more efficiently and powerfully, learn about risk assessment and management, conquer a pivot turn, and practice technique for paddling in waves. An advanced skills class can benefit paddlers wanting to do day trips and touring or racing, as well as folks who have never taken a lesson and don’t yet know what they don’t know. You’ll leave having unlocked new levels of fun and skill. Emphasis on water safety, skill development, keeping the paddle connected with the water, and movement all over the board. An advanced skills course is a requirement for any paddlers wishing to become Paddle Canada SUP Instructors.

Court Outdoors reserves the right to cancel courses, lessons, private bookings, and day-trips due to unsafe conditions, inclement weather, or circumstances beyond our control. If your booking is cancelled your payment will be refunded, or alternate date provided.
